Delight your senses to a feast of
nature's pureness. The clean fresh air is invigorating for both lungs and mind.
Much of the Algoma area consists of fauna untouched by any active industrial
influences. Crystal clear waters are maintained by natural filtration through
wetlands and oxygenation from running over rocks. Natural springs also occur in
local areas. In Elliot Lake, Minnows and a mother Cat Fish swimming with a group of about 100 young fish were observed with simple swimming masks on the sandy beach shoreline. Many different species of birds can be seen in the forests and surrounding areas of the north shore in and around the Algoma region. There are American Gold Finches, American Woodcocks, Bald Eagles, Blackbirds, Blue Birds, Blue Herons, Blue Jays, Bohemian Wax Wings, Cardinals, Cedar Wax Wings, Chickadees, Cranes, Gulls, Hawks, King Fishers, Morning & Evening Ghostbeaks, Night Herons, Nut Hatches, Owls, Pileated Woodpeckers, Red Pols, Red Starts, Red Wing Ravens, Robins, Snowbirds, Sparrows, and a Rookery (nesting ground) for Sand Tail Cranes is in the Mateninda area. Beavers, Squirrels, Chipmunks, Muskrats, Rabbits, Hares, and Turtles, are often seen, and Moose, Deer and bear are sometimes chanced upon in more remote areas. |
